Sneak Peek! MillionAir Project by JT

We’re thrilled to have IBB Designer James Turner, a.k.a JT, blogging for us today!  He’s giving us a sneak peek inside a project he is working on for MillionAir.  Let’s see what he’s up to!

I’ve been so lucky to be working on a project for MillionAir in Addison.  They called me and wanted me to warm up the space in their new state of the art hanger.    We’ve done quite a bit, but the one thing that I’ve heard time and time again from the female staff at MillionAir is their love and appreciation of the women’s facility.

Here it is in the before stage.  Honestly, not much to write home about.  Utilitarian and lackluster to say the least.  I can see where it needed a little enhancement with the overall design scheme for the sitting area.

I brought in two fabulous chairs from Jessica Charles in a refined champagne fabric.  The line of the chairs have a very aerodynamic feel, fitting of a Jet.  In addition, we’ve nixed the office “box store” table and in its place added an elegant eglomise chest to house all the little things one needs.  A sophisticated phalaenopsis orchid placed on the chest with a collection of perfumes and we have ourselves one swanky ladies room.

You too can incorporate new things to vamp up your own guest bath.  Maybe you have room for a small table for a floral to sit.  Or perhaps some nice monogrammed towels.  Try replacing the normally boring overhead “bathroom bar” light fixture with something more stylish. Taking the time to dress up your powder bath will really make an impact with your guests.  At IBB Design Fine Furnishings, we have so many things to help make living in style easy!

Making the most of what you have!

Happy Friday design devotees!  I have a treat in store for you today!  I’ve asked Kevin Wild, one of IBB’s designers, to guest blog for us today.  He’s giving us a quick peek into a project he is working on with a client to show us how to make the most of what you have.  Take it away Kevin…

Design is all about putting your unique personal touch in your home.

Sometimes you even have to “work with whatchya got!”   This is exactly what I did in my client’s new home.  A few months back my clients moved in, and like many of my clients, she had wallpaper in her formal dining room. She was ready to rip it down and paint.   I told her, “No way.”   Her wallpaper was fabulous!

I used their wallpaper as the inspiration for the entire design.  A lot of times you may feel like patterns are too busy. Sometimes this is true with an all-over pattern on a chair or wallpaper.   An easy tip and trick is to break up the pattern to give your eye somewhere to rest!

In this dining room I broke up the busy pattern of the wallpaper with two fantastic John Richards elgomise floor mirrors.  This also allowed the dining room to bounce light all around the room.  In addition, the mirrors are gold leafed which helps tie in the gold from the wallpaper at the same time contrasting with the darkeness of the wallpaper.

The real icing on the cake in this room is the unique designer chairs from Guy Chaddock.   The tone-on-tone structured pattern contrasts with the more natural curves of the rest of the room.  The lighter fabric also provides a fresh contrast with the darker patterned wallpaper.  The clean lines of the chairs give the room an updated feel.

At the end of the day, using elements and details that are currently in your space to your advantage and adding a few new pieces to freshen it up can lead you to the design that fits you uniquely.

-Kevin Wild

Thank you Kevin!  It’s fun to see how just by changing things a bit & adding a few new pieces can give a room’s design a whole new perspective.   A room can still look fabulous even if you’re forced to work with what you’ve got!

Happy weekend & happy decorating everyone!

Good Old Red, White & Blue

In honor of the 4th of July, let’s talk about some  All-American colors!  Friday on Good Morning Texas, I showed you different ways you could incorporate the classic red, white & blue color palette into your home.  Whether you choose a neutral base & add doses of red, white & blue thru your accessories or you use the fresh colors in larger amounts on your bigger pieces, these colors will help you create a design that will make you feel happy.

Here are a few more of my favorite red, white & blue decor ideas for your home:

Stars & Stripes fabric by Perennials.

I LOVE this room by Suzanne Kasler.  If I owned a lakehouse, I would definitely have a room like this.  It feels so fresh & welcoming.

HP Highlights: Innovative Designs for Today’s Lifestyle

We’ve just returned from our buying trip to High Point, North Carolina and I’m happy to report that several furniture manufacturers & designers are really in tune to today’s needs & how people are living.  They’re offering consumers more & more options as well coming up with innovative ways to allow one piece to be used several ways.   We all know that furniture is an investment, so you really need to take your time to select quality, stylish & purposeful pieces for your home.  Take a look at a few of my favorite finds.  These home furnishings are not only multi-functional, they’re also super stylish!

Cocktail Table by Barclay Butera

The cocktail lifts up on hinges to become dining height.  So perfect for those with smaller homes, lofts or apartments that don’t have a true dining area.  Also great for those days when you just want to dine in front of the TV.  Or, how about using it in a game room or media room for popcorn & drinks?  Your guests will get a kick out of it’s double duty!

Fabulous upholstered cocktail by Century.  The mirrored tray slides so you can place it in any position you like.  Plus, this table is H-O-T!!!

This dazzling floor mirror with eglomise details is by Hooker.  Use the crystal knob on the front mirrored panel to open it & reveal a jewelry display large enough to hold all of your necklaces & baubles.

Round cocktail table by Guy Chaddock.

This table also goes from cocktail height to dining height.

This is one of my favorite end tables.  Michael Weiss created it for Vanguard.  It slides right over the seat cushion of your sofa.  It gives you the option of having a spot for your drink, snacks or remote control anywhere you sit on the sofa.

Thomas O’Brien designed this classic coffee table for Hickory Chair.  It’s not a new introduction, but it’s one of my favorites.  I’ve showed it to you before.  The base of the table is slanted at the perfect angle to hold coffee table books or magazines.

Video: My top 5 favorite chairs right now!

If you’re looking for that special something to liven up your decor, a fabulous chair or pair of chairs can easily do the trick!  I recently highlighted my top 5 favorite chairs of the moment for Good Morning Texas.

Watch the video here.

Favorite Chair #1

This leather & hair on hide upholstered chair with antique brass nailhead trim would work wonderfully in a study featuring a rich warm brown color palette.

Favorite Chair #2

I LOVE this jewel tone beauty from John Richard!  The rich colors paired with gold leaf detail make this chair such a luxurious treat!  This has been a very popular chair at IBB.

Favorite Chair #3

Now, you all know that I am a sucker when it comes to a fabulous piece featuring eglomise!  So, it’s no wonder this stylish number (again from John Richard) made my list of faves!

Favorite Chair #4

The color of the year for 2010 is turquoise, but how about a richer deep teal for a pop of color?  Use these comfy chairs to add style to a family room, study or swanky sitting area.

The embroidered branch pattern on this Sherrill chair is to die for!  We contrasted the outside of the frame with a sumptuous chocolate brown velvet & then added some additional eye candy by using polished nickel nail head trim to finish off the look.

**All of the above chairs are available at IBB Design Furniture Showroom**

Birthday Wishlist: Day 1

I am really into birthday celebrations!  Like, big time!  I like to go all out.  Not just on my own birthday, but all of my loved ones as well.  Especially when it comes to my sweet little daughter, but we’ll tackle those issues in December (I should really show you some of her past parties).  I also bake my secret recipe pumpkin spice bread for my man every year (whose birthday just so happens to be the day before mine ~ poor guy spends the his whole day planning my surprises ~ but don’t worry!  This domestic diva always tries to make her birthday man feel special on his big day)

So, back to the big day ~ November 3rd to be exact.  In true Scorpio fashion, I like to celebrate my birthday all month long.  Whether its lunches with girlfriends, surprises from my man, quality time with my daughter or shopping (that’s a birthday must, right?), I feel the need to prolong the celebration of the good Lord granting me one more glorious year of life.

So, in honor of this year’s month long celebration, I’ve decided to make a daily list of items that would be dreams come true for any birthday girl.  As a designer, I have access to the world’s best resources for creating a beautiful home.  This, at times (ok, most of the time ~ alright, ALL the time), makes me the quintessential “kid in the candy store”.  Especially given the fact that my family owns a furniture store.  You get the picture, right?  30 days in November.  30 items on my birthday wish list.  Not super hard for me to come up with.  Now, if I could only figure out to create that birthday registry….

So, without furhter adue,

Birthday Wishlist Item #1

If you’ve followed my blog in the past, you know I am a HUGE fan of eglomise.  I want this bed in my master bedroom so bad that I’ve literally dreamt about it since first laying eyes on it.  It would be oh so perfect in there.  I have grand plans for this bed!  My master is in much need of some fabulosity & this has it written all over it.  This is the much needed “spark” that I need to light the fire in me to give my master a MUCH needed makeover!  Birthday fairy, do you hear me?
