Fancy Word Friday: Case Goods

If you’re around a professional designer for any period of time, chances are you will probably hear them use the term “case goods”.  This industry term refers to home furnishings that are made primarily out of wood.  Think end tables, armoires, consoles & cocktail tables.

Here are a few of my favorite case goods:

New Gotham City Table in Ivory by Global Views

Thompson Side Table by Thomas O’Brien for Hickory Chair

Raffles Cocktail Table by Century furniture.  You may remember me showing this to you for my 4th of July segment on GMT.

Morgan Media cabinet by Thomas O’Brien for Hickory Chair featuring a hydraulic lift that can accommodate a TV up to 42″.

Game table by Larry Laslo for Ferguson Copeland.

5 things to make you feel cozy

Cooler temperatures means it’s time to get cozy.  Snuggle up & take a look at a few things to warm up your home…

1) faux mink fur pillow in chocolate brown adds warmth & luxury to this gorgeous chair by Taylor King

2) any shade of orange (think harvest pumpkin) The plush orange chenille and deep seat on this chair make it extra cozy!

3) a well done fireplace mantle
We’ve kept it simple here.  With the cedar ceiling beams & fabulous stone fireplace in this family room, you don’t want to over do it on the accessories.

4) a fabulous place to put your hot cup of cocoa or night cap (fabulous cocktail table or end table)

Cocktail table by Oscar de la Renta for Century

5) piles of pillows reflecting a fall ambiance (can’t u just imagine running & jumping onto a pile of cozy pillows as if they were fall leaves? LOL!)

A place to set your drink…

You absolutely MUST have one of these in your home!  They call it a “Martini Table”, a swanky name for a small occasional table.  It seems that it may have also gotten its name from the shape.  Most martini tables have long slender stem like bases with a small top.  They’re made to service one chair or one end of a small sofa or settee.  I’ve seen them in a myriad of designs from eglomaise and other mirrored surfaces to steel or wood (like the one pictured).  They are uber-functional!  Just about every furniture manufacturer offers at least one style .

I love the idea of using a table like this in your formal living area, family, room or study.  Actually, you could use it just about anywhere you need a place to set your drink.  When there is not enough space to use a standard end table, this is the perfect solution!

Gotta have it!!!

Eye Catching Table

I love this table!  This fantastic end table by Hickory Chair offers not only gorgeous style, but also superb functionality.  It’s actually a French bar cart.  The two tiered design features a top tray covered in eglomise miror (which means to take a glass panel & paint a picture on the  back of it that shows through).

Picture it anywhere in your home.  The table is on casters, so if you’re feeling fickle, simply move it into another room for a whole new look.  I’m a little biased about the fabulosity of this piece.  I actually have it in my family room.  It’s nestled in a corner between my sofa and a recliner.  The size is perfect because it offers a generous amount of space and easy access to the sofa & the recliner.  I’ve even used it at parties as an actual bar cart.  It was perfect at the end of a buffet to display a crystal ice bucket and a collection of fine liquors for guests to fix their drinks.

There is one left in stock right now on the floor of our showroom at IBB.  I highly suggest this piece to add some style and great function to your room & a perfect addition for your holiday parties!
