Embrace Color!

maryhellen-bio

Don’t be afraid of color!  Have no fear, bring in the color for fresh and fun cheer!!

You see vibrant colors and room combinations all the time and may find yourself saying, “Wow! This is way too contemporary or loud!” Finding that balance and sophisticated way of pulling in color can be a challenge and tend to make you shy away. Embrace it, go for it!

Use color in coffee table books stacked on an end table or centrally located on the cocktail table.   Have some fresh flowers cut and simply stemmed in a pretty vase.  Fresh flowers in a room will always bring a smile to your face!

Pull in a few, or even a single fun and colorful pillow on your sofa or chair. Remember, a little goes a long way so those few simple elements can transition a room from flat to fun in a matter of minutes!!

Feeling even more adventurous?   Opt for a bold piece of artwork with color or a shade of paint to brighten up a wall.  A great piece of art can really set a room off.  In an all neutral setting, a bold colorful piece of art could serve as the stand out element to create a WOW factor!

So, embrace color & take a risk.  Whether a small pop or a bold powerful statment, just remember to have fun & surround yourself with things you love!

Perfect Hostess Gift

The holidays are fast approaching & I’m sure your social calendars are already lit up like a Christmas tree with events to attend & friends & family’s parties to enjoy.  Between kiddos, work & charities, this is a busy busy time of year.  Don’t show up at one of those parties empty handed!  Give the hostess with the mostest a thoughtful token of your appreciation for throwing a celebratory holiday soiree.  I have 3 “Go To” hostess gifts that I prefer to give (& receive!).

1) Fragrant candles:  My favorites are Niven Morgan, Christian Tortu & Trapp.  They are all yummy & come in pretty packaging that need very little (if any) wrapping.

2) A good bottle of wine:  Nothing says thank you like toasting a great party with a group of friends.  Or, if wine is already being served, the hostess can add it to their bar to seve at a later date.  My favorites to take along are Seghesio & Beringer Alluvium.

3)  Cocktail table books:  This is the gift that keeps on giving.  I love giving entertaining or interior design books to my friends & clients.  They will the have tons of eye candy & inspiration wrapped inside a visualicious (that’s my new word!) hardcover book.  Also, the ones with pretty bindings & covers can pull double duty as decor on cocktail tables, bookshelves, nightstands & end tables!  We just got a new shipment in at IBB (pictured left) & our patrons are eating them up!

Happy Party Hopping!
