Sneak Peek Saturday ~ Brooklyn’s Nursery

Well, I must apologize my design devotees!  I’ve been meaning to share Brooklyn’s nursery with you all for quite some time.  She’s 14 months old now & time has just flown by.  Life has been pretty crazy.  I’m still trying to find the groove of balancing life with 2 busy kiddos, time with my hubby & family, running a business & charity work.  Some of you may have already seen shots of Brooklyn’s nursery in ON Magazine & GrandLuxe Magazine.  I’ve also posted a few teasers on facebook & twitter.  But, alas, here are the complete set of shots I had done of her room.

Most of the items in Brooklyn’s nursery are what I originally designed for our oldest daughter, Jaylie when I was pregnant with her 8 years ago.  The crib, chandelier, Barbie mirror & chair & ottoman are new additions.  I had aqua stripes painted on the ceiling because I wanted to add a fabulous ceiling treatment for Brooklyn to gaze at while she laid in her crib.

We had the twin bed in Jaylie’s nursery as well.  It’s a must for daddy or mommy to sleep in when Brooklyn is sick or having a rough night!  Big sister Jaylie often begs to sleep in here as well.  It’s so sweet!  The “Brooklyn” art was a baby gift from my good friend Kris Perry.

My mom, Jaylie & I made the Barbie mirror.  We used a sunburst mirror from IBB & glued the 50th anniversary Barbies on it in the same pose to create visual cohesiveness.

Jaylie loves to read to Brooklyn.  Actually, I’m not sure who enjoys it more.  Brooklyn is just enamored by her big sister!  Keeping books in the nursery is a must!

This is one of my favorite places to snuggle with Brooklyn.  This swivel rocker chair & ottoman by Lee Industries is amazingly comfortable!  I have fallen asleep in it many a time!  I had it upholstered in indoor/outdoor fabrics because I knew it was going to get lots of use & abuse from our family.

My great Aunt Helen hand made this pink velvet bear for Brooklyn.  She made a similar one in pink mohair for Jaylie when she was born.  We keep it up on the changing table, but it’s just for snuggles & looks.  Too precious to play with everyday!

I love Brooklyn’s chandelier from Stray Dog Designs.  I had this design made in a custom size to fit her room just perfectly.  I love how the black & white stripes play with the aqua stripes on the ceiling.  The aqua & apple green finial are just adorable!

I had liners made for the baskets on the changing table out of coordinating fabrics from the nursery bedding.  It’s a great way to conceal all of the necessities we use on a daily basis & add color to the white changing table unit.

I hope you enjoyed the peek into Brooklyn’s nursery!  To all of my momma friends out there ~ Have a wonderful Mother’s Day & I hope you all are pampered & spoiled tomorrow!

Happy Tuesday my design friends!  Life is very busy over here at the Geyer household.  Brooklyn Sage Geyer was born on March 8th & was 7 pounds 1 ounce & 19 inches.  She is officially one week old today!  We love her more & more every day.  Big Sis Jaylie is taking her sisterly duties very seriously.  She loves to read & sing to Brooklyn.  Life is great as a family of four!

I want to thank all of my friends in the blogosphere, twitter, & facebook for all of the kind well wishes & gifts over the last week.  We feel so loved!

Gotta dish some shout outs!

Flowers from my friends at CR Laine (one of my favorite upholstery lines that we carry at IBB)  Thank you!

I was super excited to receive this gift from my fabulous Twitter friend Julie Bova. The Guna Pod, an infant sleep sack, is the creation of her sister & we absolutely love it!  Thanks Julie!

I especially want to give a huge shout out to my amazing mom who came over & filled our house with loads of gorgeous fresh flowers to welcome home baby Brooklyn!  It was such a treat!  There is just something about fresh flowers around the house that instantly puts a smile on your face!

I’ve got lots to share with you over the coming weeks as I recover from my c-section and enjoy some time off with my sweet baby girl.  Stay tuned for guest bloggers, more sneak peeks from the new Geyer casa & other IBB projects & a fun makeover!

Sneak Peek: Brooklyn’s Nursery

Today’s Sneak Peek Saturday is a glimpse into the nursery of our sweet baby girl Brooklyn who is due to arrive any day now.  All of the bedding is what I used in our oldest daughter’s nursery.  I chose to go more funky & not so “baby” in the room so that it would grow with her.  Turquoise, hot pink, bubblegum pink & lime green compose the color story.  I added accents of black & white for some contrast & spunk.  I’m a big fan of vibrant colors & six years later, the fabrics are still fun & fresh.  You don’t have to go this bold or funky in your nursery, but I always say it’s a good idea to plan a room with room to grow.  Using a baby theme or baby specific farbrics may create the need to re-do the baby’s room once they pass the toddler years.  The longevity of your design investment goes right out the window.

I even used the same drapery panels that we had in Jaylie’s nursery.  The windows in our new house are a bit taller, but I was able to let the hem out & they worked beautifully.  The art above the crib was a gift from my friend Kris Perry, an artist I work with a lot.  I love ceiling treatments in baby’s rooms because it gives them something to look at while they’re laying in their crib.  Even though I thought my decorative painter was going to have a heart attack when I told him the plan, I just love how the turquoise stripe turned out.  The inside of the bumper pad is a black & white zebra, so I used a zebra cowhide rug underneath the crib to ground the vivid colors.  I couldn’t find Jaylie’s crib in storage so, the crib (from Young America) is a new addition.  They have so many fun paint finishes to choose from & offer cribs & other kid’s furniture from traditional to more modern in style.

All of the big stuff is done.  We’ve got the room organized & ready for baby.  I’m waiting on a few last designer details like a custom chandelier I’m having made from Stray Dog Designs & a nightstand to go beside the twin bed in the room.  I hope you enjoyed todays’s sneak peek & I can’t wait for precious Brooklyn to get to enjoy it.  When the room is complete, I’ll post the rest of the photos.  Happy weekend everyone!

Thank You! ~ My anonymous friend!

I returned to my office this morning after a busy whirlwind trip to High Point for furniture market & was pleasantly surprised to find a little gift on my desk.  Inside were these adroable little baby shoes!  The note was just signed “fan of the Designer Detective”.  At first I thought it was my husband being creatively sneaky, but he swears it wasn’t him.  So, I wanted to give a big hug & shout out to my anonymous friend & blog reader & say THANK YOU!  That was really too kind of you to think of me & send a little gift for my growing bundle of joy.  Such a treat to be greeted with it this morning!

PS ~ I would love it if you would shoot me an e-mail to reveal yourself so that I could send you a “proper” thank you note.

Sneak Peek Saturday: Designer Nursery

Today’s Sneak Peek Saturday is from IBB designer Shannon Gidney.  Shannon is just weeks away from delivering her first child, a baby girl.  We are all so excited & can’t wait until baby Morgan arrives!  This sweet nursery is layered in creams, chocolate brown & turquoise.  A few antique touches, like a rocker Shannon found, help give the room a vintage feeling.  The drapery fabric is from Kravet.  It’s also used on the top of the ottoman & again in the crib bedding.  There are lots of more fun details to share with you like an amazing hand crafted dresser & fun little touches Shannon created to let her sweet little angel always know how much she is adored.  Congratulations John & Shannon!

Stay tuned for more nursery details & updates on Morgan’s arrival.  You can contact Shannon here. or 214-618-6630
