Yummy Yellow & Gorgeous Gray!

You may remember that last year’s color of the year was Mimosa, a warm sunny shade of yellow.  At IBB, we love color.  There’s nothing better than seeing neutrals come alive with beautiful pops of color.  Yellow can instantly make a home feel bright & welcoming.

The color combo of yellow paired with the very chic neutral gray is quickly catching on as one of the most sought after color palettes.  Our model team executed the gorgeous duo on a recent project in Houston, led by IBB designer Susan Neff.  Take a peek inside the family room…

The tufted ottoman coffee table is by Aidan Gray.  I love the shelf at the bottom that allows for extra storage for books, magazines, or a basket to hide your remotes.  Pillows with yellow & gray prints make a splash on the sofa & wing chairs.

The neutral stone gray wing back chairs are by Century.   The art over the fireplace may be my absolute favorite part of the room.  It brings so much life & color to the space & really draws your eye up.

We used a lively yellow & gray print from Duralee on the drapery panels which were designed by our drapery designer Gilda Wood.  The breakfast table is also by Aidan Gray.

Windows with Style

Dear Designer Detective,

Need to find out what to do about window coverings in our family room. We don’t want to block or distract from any of wonderful view, but leaving them plain just doesn’t look right.

-Kim Collier

Dear Kim,

Thank you so much for your question!  It’s actually one I get all of the time.  Here are a few solutions that i would suggest for you.

Simple pleated linen panels on either side of the windows with woven wood shades.  The woven woods can raise & lower for privacy & allow for little or no view obstruction.

Another drapery panel & woven wood example

OR

Simple pleated panels to dress the windows.  This option does not allow for privacy.  However, you could make the panels wide enough to draw closed if you want to be able to have privacy.  This will make the panels hang into the windows on the sides more, but will not obstruct your view.

OR

Here we used 2″ wood blinds with simple pleated drapery panels on either side.  The panels help to dress the windows, draw your eye up & bring color & texture into the room.

Time to get those windows stylin!  Let me know what you end up choosing to make your windows make a fabulous design statement!  Happy decorating!

New Fabrics for Fall

The temperature is dropping & the kiddos are back in school.  Before you know it, you’ll be sitting in front of your fireplace with a nice cup of hot cocoa.  Fall is here!  I love fall and everything that represents it.  This time of year, I use a home fragrance around my house called Harvest Spice.  It’s a plug in that I fell in love with the year my daughter was born & I’ve used it ever fall ever since.

Fall colors are warm, inviting & cozy.  Schumacher’s line of fall fabrics for 2009 vividly represent the best of fall.  From intricate paisleys to lush palampores (a tree of life design) the collection offers something for everyone.  Here’s a sneak peek at some of my favs.

Love this bright bold paisley.  I’m also a fan of red & gold together.  Reds & golds seem to offer a timeless tradition for color palettes.  The design of this paisley is based off of an antique pattern.  Bravo Schumacher!  Love it!

I love the muted colors used in this version of the Paisley pattern.  Very soft & subtle.  It doesn’t scream paisley at you.  This fabric would make fabulous draperies or bedding!

I could see this on a pair of carved wood chairs with a rich brown finish or on pillows for a sofa for an added pop of color.
