Style Spotted: Thom Filicia

One of my favorite stops at market is Vanguard Furniture. I love the fresh design aesthetic of their furnishings. They have several designer collaborations, but I’m particularly fond of Thom Filicia’s collection. And yes, he is as charming in real life as he is on tv. I met him for the first time a few years ago & every time I see him he always takes the time to catch up & ask me how my family is & to see pictures of my kiddos. He also personally walks Vanguard guests thru his collection describing each piece along the way. It’s always such a treat! Take a look at some of my favorites from Thom & Vanguard.

Makeover Magic in just a few hours!

Last Friday around 8:00 AM, I received an SOS e-mail from a long time client & friend that they were in need of a quick makeover for their formal living room & master bedroom.  I am used to getting requests like this around this time of year.  Many clients are eager to get their homes vamped up before their season of holiday soirees begin.  She wanted to know if we could meet around 1:00 to pull some things together to have delivered asap.  Here’s where, as a designer, having access to 40,000 square feet of home furnishings & accessories with over 300 different lines at your fingertips really comes in handy!  We’ve been working on their home for some time now, so I was in familiar territory.  In the formal living room, we were going to utilize their existing sofa, a piece of art, coffee table, a pair of chairs & a chest.  Everything else needed to be filled in.  The room boasts 30 foot ceilings & a magnificent cast stone fireplace.  Floor to ceiling windows showcase the family’s stunning backyard oasis.  I accepted the challenge & scurried back to my office after finishing GMT to get started on the project.

Above are a few of the pieces I came up with.  We met at 1:00 to discuss everything & had the truck loaded & ready to deliver by 3:00.  Project makeover was in full effect!  The eglomise consoles were selected to flank the fireplace with the impressive 87″ circle mirrors hanging above each one.  The jewel tone striped chairs have a stunning back (which you will see as you enter the home) & will face the windows for guests to enjoy the views.  The large drum table was picked to take center stage in the large foyer of the home.  By 5:30, the truck was unloaded & the family had a stunning new formal living room.  We will be hanging the mirrors this afternoon & are waiting on a few pieces that we decided to special order.  I love it when a project comes together so quickly.  It’s that glorious feeling of instant gratification.  Or, as I like to call it ~ a magical makeover!

Mini Make-over

It’s time for a make-over!  It’s a mini project for me.  I’ve finally had it!   My office at IBB is in major need of some TLC.  You see, we’ve been at our current location for more than five years now.  I was pregnant with my daughter & super busy at the time of the move, so I decided to put the task of “officially” designing my office space off for a later date.  Well, five years later, things are still super busy around here (Praise God!)  & my walls are still bare (with the exception of a print of the new studios I was given when I started at Good Morning Texas).  My desk chair is oh-so-comfy, but a MAJOR eye sore!  My guest chairs for clients & other business guests are pretty, but they’re just not me.

Last weekend while I was up here working on a client project, I finally reached my boiling point.  Part of creating inspiring interiors, I believe, is surrounding ourselves with things we find inspiring.  My office, where I spend a great deal of time each day, falls very short of awe inspiring.

I whipped out some fabric books & my Benjamin Moore paint deck & picked out some fabulosity for my new digs.  I wanted something fun, girly, young & hip.  I will be using hints of fuschia (because I love pink & I think my fiance would kill me if I ever tried to use pink in the home we’ll soon be sharing!)  I’ll be re-covering my desk chair & the guest chairs, painting the walls, adding some art & lighting & switching out the big bulky armoire for a sleek mirrored console.  I’ll be keeping my desk unit (even though I probably should eventually update that too) because I love it’s functionality & quite frankly I just don’t want to spend the money right now.  I’ll be tackling this in stages (in my spare time:  note to self; find spare time! ~ LOL!) so I will post the after pictures when it’s complete.  For now,  check out the color palette as well as some before photos below.
selectedfabrics

These are the fabrics I’ve selected.  Since you haven’t heard me shut up about my excitement that turquoise is the 2010 color of the year, are you even surprised that I’d be using it in my own surroundings?  I’m contrasting it with the rich midnight blue velvet.  I’ll be pulling in hints of my favorite color pink through the fuchsia in the stripe fabric as well as some accessories.  I”ll show you & explain where everything is going in the After post when the room is complete.  Gotta let the reveal be a surprise…

I know, I know.  Hideous, right?  I use that cozy turquoise throw everyday ( It’s always so dang cold in my office! ), but it actually helps disguise my ugly desk chair too ~ LOL!
armoirebefore

My chunky clunky armoire is getting the boot.  It’s really just serving as a storage unit for JUNK!  Hasta la vista baby!

wallcolorbefore

This shows off the wall color before.  I’ll be changing it to a bright white for a cheery update and to bring some life into my office.  I have no windows in here, so I’m ready for a light bright feel.  As of now, I’ve selected Benjamin Moore white dove.  I’ll be painting a test sample this weekend.

I’ll be recovering these chairs & adding some cool detailing to give them a fun playful update.

If I’m feeling a little frisky, I will probably chronicle this makeover via twitter, so make sure you follow me here.

Birthday Wishlist: Day 8

A beautiful bedside table.

A bedside table can help make or break a bedroom.  I often like to mix & match.  However, when you find something really fabulous, I say go for two!  Take these fabulous options by Hickory Chair for example.  The first one is their reed & ribbon chest.  It’s just stunning.  Hickory Chair offers this piece in a variety of wood & hand painted finishes.  The second is the Normandy chest.   I love the scallopped top & antique feel.  I’m getting ready to show these to a client as options on either side of an iron bed for a guest bedroom.  I’m specifying a parchment finish with gold leaf detailing.  SO excited to see which one they pick & how it turns out!  I will keep you posted.

Unveiling John-Richard

Drum roll please…

It’s here!  I’m so excited to share a sneak peek at our exclusive John-Richard Gallery now at IBB Design Furniture Showroom!  If you haven’t had the pleasure of getting to know John-Richard before, allow me to indulge you.

John-Richard was originally founded in 1980 as a wall art & decor business. They are hands down one of my very favorite home furnishings lines.  I have several of their pieces in my own home.  Today, they have expanded the business to include lighting, mirrors, accessories, botanicals, accent furniture, case goods, & upholstery.  They are known for their unique look to the furniture market crafted by cutting edge finishes, materials & other resources to manufacturer their goods. Their elegant sophistication is functional for today’s home, however their new designs are implemented with the idea of becoming tomorrow’s family treasures.

Take a sneak peek at the gallery inside IBB…

Accessorize It!

Is something missing from your home?  You’ve bought all of the big furniture pieces, but it just doesn’t seem right.  You may take a look around & realize that you’ve forgotten to accessorize.  Accessories are like jewelry for your home.  They can help tie your whole look together.   Here’s a few ideas to pull your look together & make your home super stylish 😉

Find a fabulous piece of art.  Use a floral and pottery to pull out the dominant colors of your color palette.

Here’s a fresh take for some coffee table decor.  I love the mixture of textures on these decorative balls.  Some are leather, some are smooth & shiny & some are adorned with seashells but they all compliment the same neutral color palette.  Combined in a bowl together, they make a beautiful statement.

Dress up a casual leather recliner with a luxurious faux mink pillow.  Va-va-va-voom!!!

Animal prints are not just for fabrics.  Try these sleek zebra decorative boxes.  They’ll most definitely liven up a bookcase.  Or, try a more practical solution & use it to hide unsightly remote controls in your family or media room.
